O Programa Tatô participou na 3ª Assembleia Geral de Cogestão das Pescas em São Tomé que contou com representantes de 22 comunidades piscatórias da Ilha de São Tomé.
Esta assembleia teve como objectivo apresentar os resultados das análises feitas ao longo dos últimos anos para identificar as zonas com maior potencial para a implementação da primeira rede de Áreas Marinhas Protegidas em São Tomé e Príncipe.
A criação destas áreas marinhas protegidas poderá contribuir para regenerar os recursos pesqueiros, proteger a biodiversidade marinha ameaçada e enriquecer as zonas na proximidade das áreas marinhas protegidas beneficiando os pescadores locais.
Estas acções têm sido realizadas no âmbito do projecto “Estabelecimento de uma rede de Áreas Marinhas Protegidas em regime de Cogestão em São Tomé e Príncipe” do Programa Kike da Mungu em São Tomé e Omali Vida Nôn no Príncipe, financiado pelo Blue Action Fund e implementado pela Fauna & Flora International, Oikos - Cooperação e Desenvolvimento, Marapa e Fundação Príncipe e com a contribuição do Programa Tatô.
Programa Tatô participated in the 3rd General Assembly on Co-Management of Fisheries in São Tomé, including representatives from 22 fishing communities of the island of São Tomé.
This meeting aimed to present the results of the analyzes carried out over the past few years to identify the areas with greater potential for the implementation of the first network of Marine Protected Areas in São Tomé and Príncipe.
The creation of these areas will contribute to improving local livelihoods through the promotion of sustainable fishing practices and local incentives to ensure conservation measures by increasing the value of the marine product and greater participation in the management of marine resources.
These actions have been carried out within the scope of the project “Establishment of a network of Marine Protected Areas under a co-management regime in São Tomé and Príncipe” of the Kike Da Mungu in Sao Tome and Omali Vida Nôn in Principe, funded by the Blue Action Fund and implemented by Fauna & Flora International, Oikos - Cooperação e Desenvolvimento, Marapa and Fundação Príncipe, with the contribution of Programa Tatô.
